A HUMBLE BEGINNING
H. L. Nathurmal, a trading firm, was established by Late Shri Nathurmal in 1919 with multifarious trading activity in various commodities. In the year 1958 his son Late Shri Lekhraj Nathurmal acquired in the Sanquelim (Bicholim) Taluka.
ENRICH WITH ORE
The mines have rich deposits of both Iron Ore & Manganese Ore.
INTERNATIONAL DESTINATION & DOMESTIC POTENTIALS
Till the emergence of China as major market for our Ore, the Goan Exporters were depending on Japan. A few exporters were the key players and all other mine owners were supplying ore to them. H. L. Nathurmal was one of such suppliers of Ore to these exporters. In the year 1984, after the demise of Mr. Lekhraj Nathurmal, his only son Shri. Haresh L. Melwani became the sole heir to the mines. An engineering graduate, Mr. Haresh L. Melwani took over the reins of the business and started exploring the Chinese market for the Indian Ore.
ASSOCIATES & ACHIEVEMENTS
Our association with M/s. Doddanavar Brothers from Belgaum, Karnataka, a large mine owner, proved to be a perfect recipe for a long journey towards an emerging Chinese market. Started with right earnest in January 2004 with the first shipment to China, in 16 months a record performance of One Million Tonnes of Iron Ore export to China has been achieved.
MINES, MINING AREA & ORE DEPOSITS
Over the years H. L. Nathurmal has acquired new mines. Now, in addition to , we have 40 Ha at Vantem and 2.33 Ha at Khanapur. The Arvalem mines have deposits of Iron Ore and Manganese Ore, while the mines at Vantem and Khanapur have Iron Ore and Manganese Ore respectively. The estimated Ore reserve at these mining areas are as follows:

Production
With the present fleet of machinery we produce on an average of 2000 m/tones of processed ore per day or say 50,000 m/tones per month. Our present production is sufficient to load one Panamax Vessel per month. The available ore at our mines is of Fe 56 to 59 grade or average Fe of 58 grade. Besides we will be buying from other mines owners of high grade for blending to make it acceptable to Chinese buyers. Since there are large numbers of small mine owners who cannot export directly and who can supply us quantities required for loading another Panamax Vessel. We may load 2 vessels a month in the near future.
River Side Plots for Storage and Barge Loading
We have arrangements for storage and barge loading at Digashi, Vagus, and Maina. Our agreements with owners, Salgoankars & Timblos are on long-term basis and we are examining possibilities of purchasing our own Riverside Plot shortly.
Barges
We have chartered on long-term basis 7 Nos. of barges having tonnage of over 9,000 M/Tones.
Mines Operation
Each mine complies with various statutory obligations of the regulatory authorities and the Mining Schemes are approved by the Indian Bureau of Mines, which is the statutory body for approving the same. The mining operation is also ISO 9001:2000 certified by a prominent certifying agency.
